unrelated to the novel but after reading so much historical novels honestly they are really bad like on a whole other level, even compared to the xianxia genre which is telling. of course there are some that are decent but what i'm trying to say is the rate at which you get bad compared to good is extremely slanted, and even then the good ones are like they just pass they aren't exceptional. for example "iron dynasty" if you can ignore the retarded first arc then its okay.. but then there are still like critical problems like the time frame is a mess, or "rebirth overthrow the song dynasty" which for whatever reason includes cultivation which is literally unnecessary and he doesn't develop technology till the end when he basically conquered everything. yeah so even the semi decent ones have critical issues with them i haven't seen one that is even close to exceptional.
oh correction it totally slipped my mind till i remembered but i mean "ancient china" type historical novels cause there are some pretty good ones but they are mainly western historical and even then they are still not perfect such as "holy roman empire" its really good but it lacks a lot in terms of technology the novel is mainly based on the political side of things.in my opinion with those types of novels you really can't get around centering the novel around technology as its a key factor in winning wars.
